Deeply influenced by Maloya and African sounds, Salangane offers a blend of sounds and rhythms around the Creole word.
Percussion and voice are the heart of Salangane's music, a return to the Essential.
Stéphane Gaze was born on the island of Reunion. He began his musical career by collaborating with the Talipot Company as an actor on the show Passage.
This show had a great influence on his work with voice and traditional African instruments and gave him the impulse to create his own musical project, Salangane, in 2005.
Based in Lyon, he began his work around Maloya, enriched by melodic instruments such as the violin, the cello, the saxophones and traditional African instruments, the balafon, the m'bira, the kora.
This crossbreeding will give rise to a first opus, Bardzour (2007) and a regional tour.
At the end of 2012, following a residency at Le Séchoir, Lespas and Canter, Salangane presented his new show during a tour of the island's venues, sponsored by "big brother" Tiloun.
With a first opus to his credit (Bardzour 2007), Salangane is back on the island with a new team.
Since his return to Reunion, Salangane has continued to explore and mix all these influences, with the desire to open Maloya to the world. He has worked for many years with the zarboutans of Maloya: Danyèl Waro, Zanmari Baré, Tiloun...
In 2011, a tour of cafés-concert allows the Reunionese public to discover Salangane and in June 2012 Salangane is selected for the Alain Peters Prize at the Sakifo Festival.
Experienced and well-known musicians in the Reunionese musical landscape, such as Patrick Quinot and Ludovic Fortuna, bring their knowledge and their history to this new adventure.
Émilie Maillot and Cloé Rousselot, musicians trained at the EMA music school, also harmonise the formation. More recently, Jérôme Chana and Fabrice Abolet, seasoned percussionists on the island, have joined the group, bringing their own special energies.
